ACTS Welcomes Dr. Eugenia Constantinou
Dr. Presvytera Eugenia Constantinou holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies (1980) and a Master of Arts degree in Practical Theology from the University of San Diego (1992). She also earned a Juris Doctorate degree in 1985 from Pepperdine University School of Law and has been a member of the California Bar since that time.
She earned a Master of Theology degree in 1996 from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology where she studied Orthodox Theology and Patristics. She attended Harvard Divinity School and earned a Master of Theology degree in 1998, specializing in New Testament. Dr. Constantinou earned her Ph.D. in 2008 from Université Laval in Quebec City writing her doctoral dissertation on the subject of “Andrew of Caesarea and the Apocalypse in the Ancient Church of the East.”
Presvytera Jeannie has been teaching Biblical Studies, Early Christianity and the Medieval Church at the University of San Diego since 2002. Previously she taught New Testament at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology from 1998-1999. She has also taught Patristic Exegesis of Scripture at the Patriarch Athenagoras Orthodox Institute in Berkeley, the Gospel of John at the University of California at San Diego, and World Religions at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon, California.
Dr. Jeannie hosts an internet bible study podcast, “Search the Scriptures” on Ancient Faith Radio (www.ancientfaith.com/podcasts/searchthescriptures) which attracts a world-wide audience. Most recently she began a live, call-in bible study called “Search the Scriptures LIVE!” which airs live on Monday nights at 5 pm Pacific Time and 8 pm Eastern Time. She is also the author of numerous articles and two books, both published by the Catholic University of America Press, Guiding to a Blessed End: Andrew of Caesarea and his Apocalypse Commentary in the Ancient Church (2013), and Commentary on the Apocalypse by Andrew of Caesarea (2012) Pres. Jeannie has been married to Fr. Costas for 39 years and they have a son, Christopher.
This Spring 2019 Dr. Jeannie will be teaching a New Testament course on the Gospel of John. This course is a careful study of the Gospel of John. The course will explore the gospel from a literary and historical perspective with the objective of uncovering the author’s intended meaning and message. To this end, it will examine the historical, cultural, and geographical setting of the Gospel as well as its authorship, audience, literary techniques and characteristics, theology and important themes. In this class students will investigate the literary, religious and philosophical currents in first century Judaism and in the Greco-Roman world. Students will also study the history of the reception of the Johannine writings, the ancient and modern controversies they engendered, and compare the purpose, themes and orientation of the Fourth Gospel with the other three gospels.
