ACTS Hosts Inaugural Alumni Breakfast
Newport Beach, September 16, 2023—ACTS celebrated its first-ever Alumni Breakfast on September 9th, uniting clergy and lay graduates in a heartwarming event that celebrated both the school's achievements and the continued dedication of its alumni at its new campus in Newport Beach.
The event brought together graduates from various classes and backgrounds to reconnect, share stories, and renew their commitment to lifelong learning and spiritual growth. The highlight of the morning was the address delivered by His Grace Bishop Kyrillos, Dean of the School, who warmly welcomed everyone and spoke passionately about the school's history, its outstanding achievements, dynamic programs, and esteemed faculty.
His Grace Bishop Kyrillos commented on the occasion, " As we gather today, let us reflect on the words of our great father for this blessed school, St Athanasius: “For, indeed, everything about is marvelous, and wherever a man turns his gaze he sees the Divinity of the Logos and is smitten/stricken with awe.” We are stricken with awe in each day of our lives. We seek not only to acquire knowledge, but to be transformed by His powerful presence, and desire to draw closer to him, and are awe-struck. I hope this breakfast is just one opportunity that we can, reignite our desire to seek Him, be transformed by Him, and reflect His shining presence in our lives and throughout the world.”
His Grace Bishop Kyrillos used the occasion to encourage alumni to consider advancing their theological journeys by applying to the school’s ThM (Master in Theology), emphasizing the importance of continued education in a rapidly evolving world. He also called upon attendees to become more actively involved in the Alumni Association, fostering a stronger sense of community and support among its members.
The day's agenda included two captivating lectures by distinguished speakers. Fr. Kyrillos Ibrahim, renowned for his insightful theological perspectives, delivered an inspiring lecture that was titled ‘The Blessed Monotony and Newness in Christ’. Dr. Jacquie Hart alumna and Valedictorian of the Class of 2018 sharing an inspiring talk about how Alumni can be an active participant in the church and community followed by Professor Meriam Ibrahim, sharing her expertise on effective leadership skills sparking thought-provoking discussions among the attendees.
“Attending the Alumni Breakfast today reminded me that our journey of faith and knowledge is ongoing. It's a beautiful testament to the enduring bond we share as alumni, and it reaffirms our commitment to continue learning, growing, and serving in our Coptic perishes and communities”. said Katherine Abraham, alumna of the Class of 2023 and ACTS Executive Director.
ACTS Theological School's inaugural Alumni Breakfast was an unforgettable gathering of minds, hearts, and spirits. It underscored the school's commitment to nurturing not only theological scholars but also compassionate leaders who are dedicated to making a positive impact on their communities and the world at large.
